BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) was established in Germany on 6 March 1916. Originally, BMW commenced as an aero-engine manufacturer, expanding into the automobile market in 1928.

BMW Australia Ltd. has operated as a wholly owned subsidiary since 1979 and its representation comprises of BMW Group Australia, BMW Group Financial Services and two wholly owned dealerships located in Melbourne and Sydney.
